I then founded DECA at my local chapter and led the chapter the following year as the chapter President. I can honestly say that deciding to participate was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Never before had I felt the energy of thousands of young entrepreneurs. I am incredibly excited to take a step up and work with this amazing organization at the provincial level. Aside from DECA, I am an active volunteer in the community and have been awarded Brampton’s Best Citizen two years in a row and an Air cadet for 6 years. I’m sure you will get the most out of DECA as I did! I hope that I can bring enough spirit to make this initiative even more enticing to all those that are ready to take the plunge into DECA! Let’s make this an amazing year, together! I am always available to answer your questions, so please keep in touch. Good luck on all of your DECA endeavours! Email me at sarabjot@deca.ca to get in touch with me.
o be a part of the team and I am definitely looking forward to seeing new and returning DECA members! It’s phenomenal to see the rate DECA is growing at! I always tell my friends that DECA is like a co-op course; you get the experience, but you don’t have to sacrifice space on your schedule for it. Along with DECA, I am also a volunteer at the Red Cross organization and with the team of End to Global Poverty. In addition, I have been a part of Junior Achievement as the Vice President of Marketing and Sales and completed classes at Cross Canada Youth Academy. I love being involved in my community. I am also very fond of photography and have participated in many exhibitions. I am looking forward to an amazing year in DECA and I hope to see many enthusiastic DECA members at upcoming conferences and competitions! Together, we will make it yet another unforgettable year, which will leave people saying “Peace.Love.DECA!” Email me at abeeha@deca.ca to get in touch with me.Hey DECA Ontario! My Name is Carter Grant, and this year I will be serving you on your DECA Provincial Student Executive as one of your Regional Representatives. Currently I am entering grade 11, and attend St. Marguerite d’Youville SS in Brampton. This is only my second year in DECA but I can honestly say that being part of it has changed my life. Outside of DECA I play soccer and run cross country for
my school, and I play representative soccer outside of school as well. I am also involved in a parish program that plans and organizes social events for high school and university students. I am also a part of the Link Crew. This is a program the helps grade 9’s have an easier and less stressful transition from elementary school to high school. I am very excited to start my second year of DECA as your Regional Representative, and I look forward to meeting you all at one of our many events, conferences, and competitions. If you have any questions contact me and I will get you the answer! Email me at carter@deca.ca to get in touch with me.
Hi everyone, its Nida Noorani here, your DECA Ontario President for this year! I joined this organization when I was in Grade 10. Like a lot of you, I didn’t exactly know what I w
as getting into but I had a lot of passion for business and a will to succeed. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind! I got caught up in the excitement, energy and most of all, the level of competition that makes this organization great. I also learnt that hard work and an optimistic outlook are key in this environment of determined entrepreneurs. During my Grade 11 year, I served on my school’s executive and helped transfer my enthusiasm to others. Along with DECA, I am involved in debating, public speaking, spoken word, Model UN and even play rugby! This year, I hope I can meet as many of you as possible and answer any questions you may have. I am always just an email away! I am confident that this year will be amazing and we will definitely get down to business! Email me at nida@deca.ca to get in touch with me.
Hey DECA Ontario! My name is Lori Ossip, and I am your Communications/Public Relations Officer for the 2010-2011 school year. I am about to enter my senior year at Tanenbaum CHAT, and am thrilled to be spending it on DECA Student Executive! My journey with DECA first began in grade nine when a much older student (a tenth grader) told me about this amazing program where I could com
bine my two loves – acting/performing and business. I was fortunate enough to be chosen to join our school DECA team in Grade 10, and it has been an incredible experience thus far. DECA is such a wonderful opportunity and a great learning experience, and you should all give yourselves a pat on the back for joining such a fine organization. When I am not busy with DECA activities, I can be found singing (everywhere, all the time…really), acting in plays, attempting to play the piano, organizing school events, teaching a drama program to young children, working part time at a retail jeweler, and volunteering with organizations like “Out of the Cold” and “Kids Help Phone.” Fun fact: I can list the Presidents of the U.S. in order, though I’m not sure when that will come in handy. I look forward to meeting you all at one of our future events, and I wish you success in your DECA accomplishments. Email me at lori@deca.ca to get in touch with me.
Hey DECA Ontario! My name is Ritu Parikh and I have been appointed your 2010-2011 Secretary! I was first introduced to DECA by my older sister and I was truly in awe by all the stories; the descriptions of her trips, the networking opportunities, the experiences she gained and the lessons she learned. Needless to say I immediately joined DECA. In my second year, I joined the school executive team and had a blast coordinating and training our chapter. The third year… well here I am. I genuinely believe that this organization has so much to offer. The professionalism of the students and the intense competition can aptly prepare any individual to present t
hemselves as a strong and confident person in the real world. It’s silly but I still feel my body freeze every time the announcers are about to recite the winners in my category, but I’m sure that feeling isn’t going away any time soon. Other than DECA, I also swim competitively, attend the Ontario Model Parliament, and plan leadership conferences. In the community, you can find me volunteering at a hospital, as well as organizing many exciting events around the city. I look forward to meeting all of you very soon and wish you the best of luck with your DECA year! Email me at ritu@deca.ca to get in touch with me.
Hey DECA Ontario! I’m Kevin Wong, your 2010-2011 Regional Representative. This coming year will be my third involved with DECA, and I’m excited at the prospect of working with all of you. DECA is an organization that truly rewards passion and hard work. In the fall, I will be entering the eleventh grade at Vaughan SS. I learned a lot last year as chapter president, and I’m thrilled to have the privilege of serving you this year on the Provincial Executive. Joining DECA in grade 9 was one of the best decisions I’ve made i
n high school. Never had I seen and felt so much energy and promise in a group of students. Since then, DECA has taken me across Ontario and the United States, provided networking opportunities I could never have dreamt of, and shown me the endless possibilities that open up when a group of determined individuals put their minds to a common goal. Outside of DECA, I am a competitive badminton player, active volunteer, and avid blogger. I have been a junior reporter for a large news publication, as well as the manager of the yearbook committee. I enjoy playing guitar and piano, following politics, and travelling. If you have any questions about DECA, whether it be about competitive events, chapter management, or just general inquiries, please contact me. I’ll be more than happy to help you. If you have any ideas for DECA Ontario, please pass them on- your support and feedback is an important part of our success. This coming year will be an exciting one for our organization, and I look forward to seeing all of you succeed! Together, we can accomplish great things! Email me at kevin@deca.ca to get in touch with me.
Hey there DECA Ontario! My name is Kathy Zhang and I am DECA Ontario’s Events Coordinator for the term of 2010-2011. In the upcoming school year I will be a grade 11 student at Marc Garneau CI where I can be found dashing everywhere organizing projects, sitting by some lockers with my friends amidst a heated discussion of pi versus e, “adopting” ancient books that have been rejected by the library, or attempting to sing about an eco-friendly cause. Outside of school I am a member of the Students of Toronto for Environmental Progress group, a peer tutor for Leading to Reading, a volunteer in
hippotherapy, and a super DECA fanatic. The initial scintilla of my DECA journey first sparked when I was in junior high where I briefly heard of the life-lasting skills and experiences DECA gave to my high school friends. The tiny spark just grew from there as I joined the DECA chapter in grade 9, as I became a chapter executive, as I felt the jolt of excitement from attending my first DECA competition alongside thousands of brilliant minds. I embraced one of the meanings of friendship, learning, leadership —and the list goes on. Thus, I am extremely excited to meet you all soon and to help make the coming year full of wonderful DECA milestones. Email me at kathy@deca.ca to get in touch with me.
