What does ICDC stand for?
ICDC stands for International Career Development Conference.

2010 ICDC News Clip in Louisville, Kentucky

Who can attend the ICDC?
There are two ways to participate in ICDC: qualify at the Provincials to compete in your event category, or, be selected to attend one of the leadership programs (based on a lottery system by school; winning schools are given up to 2 spots for leadership programs).  All students must be accompanied by at least one teacher advisor who will be specifically responsible for those students for the duration of the trip.

How many days of school will be missed?
About 5 days of school will be missed, depending on the year.

How much will the ICDC cost?
The cost of ICDC varies each year depending on the location, mode of transportation, and hotel.  DECA Ontario tries to minimize costs and maximize opportunities to make this trip a safe and enjoyable one.  The exact cost of this year’s ICDC will be communicated to advisors prior to the Provincials.  Take a look at the ICDC ~ REGISTRATION for costs.

If I change my mind, or can no longer attend the ICDC, will I get a refund?
You have THREE business days to cancel without penalty.  There will be a $100 cancellation fee assessed PER cancellation made after Friday, February 12, 2010.  If you are cancelling less than 4 weeks before the ICDC, please contact DECA Ontario to discuss your options.

Can changes be made to written submissions before the ICDC?
Yes, and it is encouraged!  Students in written event categories are encouraged to make changes to their written submission and presentation as long as the basic premise of the proposal is not changed (i.e. if you are opening a Lick’s franchise in the Middle East, you may consider changes to the marketing strategy or finances, etc., but your idea remains to open a Lick’s franchise in the Middle East).

What can be done to prepare for the competition?
Archives of past tests, event topics, and role plays have been provided to your advisor for practice and training for all competitions.  These should be used for your self-initiated training.

DECA Ontario has a reputation of dedication to uphold.  In honour of that reputation, we try to prepare our competitors through training sessions led by advisors at the Pre-ICDC meeting and during our trip.  These training sessions give students the opportunity to get feedback from other advisors as well as other students in your category.  At ICDC, we like to put emphasis on the success of the group, DECA Ontario, rather than the individual competitiors.  We would like you to think of other students from DECA Ontario not as your competitors, but as your colleagues, helping one another to achieve overall success for DECA Ontario at the ICDC.
